Details of Clinton store closures released 12 June 2012

43 Clinton Cards and Birthdays stores have closed, administrators at Zolfo Cooper confirmed this month.

The closed sites were part of the 330 stores not included in the deal confirmed on 7 June when Lakeshore Lending Limited acquired 397 stores from the failed card retailer.

Zolfo Cooper administrators Peter Saville, Simon Freakley and Anne O’Keefe confirmed they are now focussing their efforts on the remaining store portfolio and are seeking expressions of interest for the remainder of the estate as a whole or in part.

Among the stores that have been closed to date are the sites at Basildon Town Square, Bristol – The Galleries Shopping Centre, Bromley Upper Mall (The Glades), Romford Liberty II Shopping Centre and Wrexham’s Regent Street branch.

Sites where the administrators are still willing to consider expressions of interest include the Kingswood and Keynsham stores in Bristol, Liverpool, Leek, Larne and Banbury.

Peter Saville, partner at Zolfo Cooper maintains that there is a strong underlying business within Clinton Cards despite the current economic conditions.

He said: “The significant number of credible expressions of interest we received for the business, from both trade and financial buyers alike, is testament to this fact.

“We would like to thank the staff for their dedication and patience throughout what has been an understandably difficult time for all concerned and we wish both them and the new owners of the business every success for the future.”
