Lloyds and RBS exceed business lending targets 23 March 2011

Lloyds Banking Group provided £11.7bn of gross lending to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and £37bn to larger business in the 12 months to February 2011, exceeding its lending commitment by £4.7bn.

During the same period Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) put up £30bn of gross lending to SMEs and £26.9bn gross lending to larger businesses, exceeding its target by £6.9bn.

Meanwhile in the mortgage market both firms exceeded their lending targets but by smaller margins.

Lloyds delivered £23.5bn of gross mortgage lending, exceeding its government-set mortgage lending target of £23bn, while RBS made £9.4bn of mortgage loans compared to a net commitment of £8bn.
