IP is new ACCA president for South Wales
John Cullen of Harris Lipman appointed
ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has elected insolvency practitioner John Cullen as the new President for its South Wales Members Network.
John is a partner at Harris Lipman LLP, one of South Wales’ leading Insolvency practices and is based in Cardiff.
Born in New Zealand, John moved to Liverpool when he was 8 years old. He began his accountancy career in the audit department of a top 10 accountancy firm in the West End of London. He chose to remain in their insolvency department at the end of a three-month secondment, and went on to work for a number of firms before joining Harris Lipman in 1997.
He qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant and having chosen to help develop Harris Lipman’s Cardiff office, moved to South Wales in August 2001 and qualified as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner.
Speaking of his appointment, John stated “I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve as President of the South Wales Members Network and have a chance to make a contribution to the development of this important Network”
“The accountancy profession has been subject to major change in recent years and the challenges of the current global economic situation have caused a sharper focus on the need for better corporate governance and financial management. Accountants will have a vital role in promoting and implementing that good governance and it’s important that we promote that role here, at the centre of the Welsh economy”.
“As the south Wales economy continues to weather the storm, I think that it’s important that as an organisation, ACCA Wales seeks to engage with its membership and reinforce the networks which allow for the development of our members and students as well as promote the exchange of good practice and opportunities for new business”.
