Begbies Traynor has entered into a joint venture with US firm Mesirow Financial Consulting, in a bid to expand into the US market.

Mesirow, founded as a one-man brokerage firm in 1937, has its headquarters in Chicago and is owned by its 1,200 employees. It has offices across the USA and in London.

The firm's services include investment management, insurance, conuslting and real estate. It has capital of $250m, compared with Begbies' market cap of £96.5m, and reported 2009 revenues of $467m. Mesirow has $30bn of assets under management.

The two firms will operate under the BTG Mesirow Financial Consulting banner when working on complex, cross-border projects.

Executive chairman Ric Traynor said: “MFC provides a range of services that fits closely with our own offering, and this joint venture will give us an excellent opportunity to raise our profile in the commercially-important US market, something which we have aspired to for some time.

“I am confident that the arrangement will provide excellent opportunities to work on global transactions, in the increasingly international professional services market.”
