150 jobs lost at care provider 30 April 2014

A Lancashire-based provider of qualified nurses and health care assistants to care homes and hospitals has entered administration.

Administrators were appointed to Abacus Care Home Care and Nursing Services (Ormskirk) Limited in the face of increasing legislation and intense competition.

Sister company, Abacus Care (Home Care and Nursing Services) Limited, which offered franchises providing care services around the UK, has also entered administration.

152 staff across the companies have since been made redundant.

Chris White and Gareth Rusling of The P&A Partnership were appointed as joint administrators to the companies on 24 April.

White, partner at The P&A Partnership, said: “Abacus Care Home Care and Nursing Services (Ormskirk) Limited has provided a valuable service across the North West, and across the UK, for a number of years but has fallen victim to growing health care legislation alongside rising competition.

“These factors have made the business unviable, forcing the owners to make the difficult decision to shut down the company.”
