North East leisure chain enters administration 22 November 2013

Over 50 staff have been made redundant after a North East bar and hotel chain entered administration.

PBR Leisure Limited operates seven bars and hotels in the North East of England and Belfast, employing a total of 153 staff.

However, following a period of “cash flow problems arising from the current challenging economic environment”, the company entered administration.

Two sites, Blu Bambu in Newcastle, and Beach in Belfast, were closed by administrators, resulting in 46 redundancies.

Peter Saville, Nick Cropper and Anne O’Keefe from Zolfo Cooper were appointed as joint administrators on 13 November 2013.

Peter Saville, partner at Zolfo Cooper, said: “It is regrettable that there was no alternative but to close two sites resulting in a number of redundancies.

“However, we will continue to trade the remaining businesses while exploring all possible options for its future, including a sale of the business.”

A further eight central employees have also been made redundant.

The company’s other locations, which are still trading, includes: Boathouse in Durham, Riverside in Newcastle and The Lodge on Mosley Street in Newcastle (once co-owned by television presenters Ant and Dec), and Waterside Hotel on Newcastle’s Quayside.
