The wife of Hell’s Kitchen star Marco Pierre White has been declared bankrupt.
Matilde White, better known as Mati, was hit with a bankruptcy order in the High Court after being petitioned by private bank Duncan Lawrie in January.
Mrs White, 47, who lives in west London, spent three years undergoing a costly divorce with the celebrity chef between 2007 and 2010.
Although the proceedings were later halted, the divorce reportedly cost the couple about £1.25m each.
According to the London Gazette, Mrs White, whose relationship with White, 50, began in 1992, was declared bankrupt on March 8.
Insolvency practitioner Matthew Chadwick, of BDO LLP, has been appointed the trustee in bankruptcy.
He said: “We are still chasing the official receiver to be given the hand over papers.
“At this stage it’s inappropriate for me to comment.”
Insolvency News understands Mrs White owes Duncan Lawrie up to £250,000 following the extensive divorce proceedings.
The bank’s PR agency confirmed the bankruptcy but refused to comment further on the case.
A spokeswoman said: “In relation to your inquiry, BDO has been appointed to handle this matter.”
In February, law firm Manches was reportedly claiming more than £200,000 from Mrs White for alleged unpaid fees following the divorce proceedings.
Mrs White wed the celebrity chef in April 2000 to become his third wife.
In 2009, it was reported that Mrs White – who worked as a bar manager at White’s restaurant, the Canteen, was also forced to sell her engagement ring to help cover her divorce costs.
White – who has an estimated £50m fortune – became the youngest chef in Britain to win three Michelin stars at the age of 28.
